C8 Corvette Storage Test: What Fits in the Frunk and Trunk?

By Zander Krause

If you are thinking about buying a C8 Corvette, the storage question matters more than people admit. The car has a frunk and a trunk, but the real question is what actually fits.

I daily drive my C8 Corvette, so this is not a staged brochure test. I tested the bags and gear I actually use: duffels, backpacks, camera gear, small travel items, and a tool kit that did not fit the way I hoped.

What I Tested

The test included a main duffel bag, a work backpack, a camera gear backpack, a larger Jordan duffel, a small toiletry-style bag, and a GearWrench tool kit. That gives a more realistic picture than just saying the car has two cargo areas.

The important lesson is that the C8 has usable space, but the shape of your items matters. Soft bags work much better than rigid hard-sided cases or bulky boxes.

How the C8 Corvette Frunk Works

The C8 frunk uses a double-latch setup. When you close it, the first latch catches, then you press down again for the second latch. When opening it, you hear it release twice before the frunk fully opens.

That latch design matters because your bags need to sit below the seal and upper structure. If something is too tall or too rigid, the frunk may not close properly, and you do not want to force anything down into the plastic or carpet.

What Fits in the Frunk?

A soft main duffel fits well in the frunk. In my test, the duffel dropped in cleanly, and there was still space above and around it for smaller items.

A backpack can sit on top if the bag underneath is soft enough and everything stays below the closure area. Small items like a toiletry bag, shoes, or cleaning supplies can fill the gaps.

The larger Jordan duffel technically fit, but not as cleanly. That is the theme with C8 storage: the capacity can be decent, but the dimensions of the exact bag matter.

What Fits in the Rear Trunk?

The rear trunk is more useful than people expect. A main duffel fits easily. A second softer bag can fit next to it. Backpacks can go between or on top depending on how full everything is.

This is where smart packing matters. You might have open space in the corners, but if your last item is the wrong shape, you still will not be able to use that space. Small flexible items are the key.

If you travel with soft bags, shoes, hats, toiletry bags, and normal weekend items, the C8 is better than expected. If you travel with rigid suitcases, the car gets more annoying quickly.

The Tool Kit Did Not Fit

The surprise miss was the GearWrench tool kit. It was not a giant tool chest, but it was too rigid and awkward for the frunk and did not fit well in the rear trunk either.

That is the best example of the C8 storage reality. The problem is not always total space. Sometimes the problem is the size, shape, and rigidity of what you are trying to pack. In that case, the tool kit would probably need to ride in the passenger seat or go in another vehicle.

Storage Verdict

You are not buying a Corvette for cargo space, but the C8 is more practical than people think if you pack smart. The frunk and trunk can handle daily-driver life, weekend bags, camera gear, and normal errands.

You will still need a truck, SUV, or borrowed vehicle for large boxes, tools, furniture, bikes, or anything bulky. But for a mid-engine sports car, the C8 gives you real usable storage.

FAQ

How much storage does a C8 Corvette have?

The C8 Corvette has a front trunk and rear trunk. It is not SUV-level space, but it can handle smartly packed duffel bags, backpacks, small bags, shoes, and weekend-travel items.

Can you fit a duffel bag in the C8 Corvette frunk?

Yes. A soft, malleable duffel bag can fit well in the C8 frunk, especially if it sits below the upper seal area. Bag shape matters more than raw capacity.

Can you fit golf clubs in a C8 Corvette?

Golf clubs can fit in the rear trunk when packed correctly, but this test did not include clubs because they were not available during filming.

What does not fit well in a C8 Corvette?

Hard-sided or awkwardly shaped items are the problem. In this test, a GearWrench tool kit did not fit well in the frunk or rear trunk and would likely need to ride in the passenger seat.

Can you daily drive a C8 Corvette with the storage space?

Yes, if your daily needs are realistic. The C8 can handle normal errands, camera gear, small travel bags, and weekend packing, but you will still need another vehicle for large boxes, furniture, or bulky tools.
